The Assessor’s Office is responsible for accurately determining the value of all real and personal property located within the City of Malden for the purpose of taxation. Assessors are obliged to assess all property at its full and fair market value as of January 1 of each year. To accomplish this Assessors gather pertinent property characteristics for each parcel of property and use this information to build appropriate valuation schedules for various classes of property.

The department is responsible for the administration of all property tax data records and maintains accurate parcel ownership data based upon recorded property transactions at the Registry of Deeds. It also administers the tax billing for the motor vehicle excise tax, statutory exemptions and abatements.

Current tax rate – Fiscal Year 2010 - $12.39 per $1,000/Residential - $21.38 per $1,000/Commercial, Industrial Properties
