The Government Center Commission, established by the state legislature in 1970, is charged with providing suitable facilities for the government of the City of Malden, other branches of government, public meetings, conventions, the performing arts and civic and cultural events. To accomplish this goal, the Commission is empowered to plan, design, acquire property for, construct, equip, furnish and maintain one or more multi-purpose buildings, malls, off-street parking facilities or other ancillary property as deemed necessary. Currently, the Commission owns and operates the Malden Government Center at 200 Pleasant Street.
