Back to School-Where Futures Begin!

“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, touches a heart and shapes the future.”

Dear Residents:

As I am typing this blog our Malden school community is gearing up for another year. The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is already in full swing; the K-8’s, Malden High School and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School began this week; and, Malden Catholic and the Cheverus School will start after Labor Day. I want to take this opportunity to wish all of our students well and to thank our teachers, school staff and administrators for all they do to teach, motivate, inspire, and encourage our youth.

This past Monday, I was asked to address the faculty and staff of the Malden Public Schools. I couldn’t think of a better way to welcome them back than with a video that I believe captures the true essence of what they mean to our students. You can watch the video here. Thank you to Ron Cochran and Paul Hammersley for their help with putting this fitting tribute together. As I said to the teachers assembled on Monday morning, I don’t pretend to think it’s easy and despite what sometimes seems like an uphill battle, I do appreciate their making a difference each and every day for our students.

Please join me in thanking all of our teachers for their commitment and investment in the future of our kids. Best of luck in the school year!

Sincerely,
GARY CHRISTENSON
Mayor, City of Malden
