Flag Retirement Ceremony 2017

Monday, June 19, 2017

Last Saturday Mayor Gary Christenson, Councillor John Matheson, Director of Veterans Services Kevin Jarvis and the Malden Boy and Girl Scouts participated in the American Legion Malden Post #69 annual Flag Retirement Ceremony. Commander Larry Clark presided over the ceremony with Legion officers George Sahady and Chaplain Connie Murphy. Incoming Commander Phil Halloran participated as well as many veterans and Malden residents.

This traditional ceremony promotes the proper respect for our United States flags by honorably disposing of old, worn and unserviceable flags. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with many volunteers collected approximately 10,000 flags from Malden cemeteries to be respectfully retired.
