Fundraiser for Puerto Rico

Thursday, November 2, 2017

The First Parish Church in Malden hosted “Malden Salsas for a Cause” a fundraiser for Puerto Rico victims of the recent hurricanes. The event began in the historic chapel with introductions from Board President Heather Vickery and Social Justice Chair Rachel Gorton. Event Planner and member of the Social Justice Team Michael Pina welcomed attendees, and Reverend Otto O'Connor provided the blessing which was followed by remarks given by Mayor Gary Christenson.

Along with raising funds, attendees learned about a foster home of 10 boys who live in “Casa Hogar Adelante” who range between the ages of 12-17. These boys have really felt the sting of devastation caused by the hurricanes as they don’t have the support of families and relatives. Participants recorded a video for the boys that a missionary traveling to their home town will deliver along with cards of encouragement. Muevelo Dance Studios provided Salsa Dance lessons to the music of DJ Loso. Food was generously donated by Pearl Street Station, All Seasons Table, District Kitchen and Victor's Italian Cuisine. Funds raised will solely benefit hurricane victims.
