Malden's Pride

Dear Malden Residents,

This past month, I had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremonies for Malden High School and the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School. Both reaffirmed my belief that there are amazing things happening in our schools. At the Malden High School graduation ceremony, the 51st ranked best high school in Massachusetts according to U.S. News & World Report, it was made known that the graduates were from a school that was the third highest urban school district for student participation in Advanced Placement courses and were awarded the most scholarships in school history. In Athletics, these students also made history when the Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams simultaneously won the Greater Boston League title for the first time in school history and a student lettered in Girls Hockey for the first time as well.

At the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School graduation ceremony, the 6th ranked best high school in Massachusetts according to U.S. News & World Report, 41 of the 79 graduating students won the prestigious John and Abigail Adams Scholarship given by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Equally impressive was that four seniors were named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program, one student received a Posse Scholarship to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and one student is heading to Harvard University!

Throughout the year as I attend the many school events across the city, I see firsthand the many accomplishments and incredible talents of all our students. I have been able to participate in many of their community service projects, commend their academic achievements, applaud their athletic successes, and enjoy their artwork, concerts and plays. There is no doubt in my mind that our future is in good hands!

Sincerely,

GARY CHRISTENSON

City of Malden, Mayor
