Wreaths Across America at Forest Dale Cemetery

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

Jim Sherman from Malden Boy Scout Troop 603 reached out to Mayor Christenson and Veterans Services Director Kevin Jarvis to let them know that he would be coordinating the Malden effort of “Wreaths Across America” at the Forest Dale Cemetery. Boy Scout Troop 603 actively participates in all Veterans Day parades and ceremonies.

On the third Saturday of each December, Wreaths Across America, a Maine-based nonprofit places wreaths at more than 1,500 cemeteries across the country. The tradition began more than 26 years ago when Maine wreath maker, Morrill Worcester and his business Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery to be placed at veterans’ graves. The event serves to remind all about our fallen heroes and teach children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms. More than 127 wreaths were placed by nearly 75 people.
