"Features of Malden" Art Contest
By: Mayor Office
4/10/2009

Calling all artists--pull out your paints, pastels, cameras or crayons and submit your works of art to a contest that could land your masterpiece on prominent display in Malden Square.  Mayor Richard C. Howard, the Malden City Council’s Citizens Engagement and Downtown Revitalization Committees invite all Malden artists to enter in the City's new "Features of Malden " Art Contest. The City of Malden along with Housing Trust of New England LLC, developer of a proposed mixed-use residential/commercial development known as Main Street Residences is sponsoring the "Features of Malden " Art Contest. The goal is to decorate fence panels along Main Street

Malden artists are invited to capture their view of what makes Malden a unique and beautiful city. Artwork of all types will be accepted.  The artwork or photograph must be easily transferable to a screen print. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of a representative of Mayor Howard’s office, a representative of Housing Trust of New England LLC and members of the Citizens Engagement and Downtown Revitalization Committees.

Entries will be accepted from Friday, May 1 through Friday, June 12, 2009 at the City Council Offices located on the sixth floor of Malden Government Center, 200 Pleasant Street.  Entries will be accepted between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Fridays. There is no fee to enter but only one work per artist can be submitted for the panel.

Depending on the success of this program, the sponsors are hoping to hold similar contests in the future for public art displays in the smaller neighborhood squares.
