- Find out if You Have Lead Service Lines
The City of Malden provides lead testing for drinking water free to all residents. Additionally, you can contact us for an inspection to find out if you have lead service in or leading into your home. To have an inspection or water test performed, you can contact our Engineering Department at 781-397-7040 to schedule or you can fill out a request online and select "Water - Lead Service Inspection" as your request category.
You can also take a look at our lead service map to see our records of your home with respect to lead service.
To properly determine if your home has a lead service line you should email us or a licensed plumber can assist in inspecting.
Lead service lines are generally a dull gray color and are very soft. You can identify them easily by carefully scratching with a key. If the pipe is made of lead, the area you've scratched will turn a bright silver color. Do not use a knife or other sharp instrument and take care not to puncture a hole in the pipe.
