Malden Is Moving
The Malden Board of Health is pleased to announce that Malden has been awarded a $50,000 grant for its Malden is Moving! Mass in Motion Program. This award is part of the Mass in Motion Municipal Wellness and Leadership Grant Program, courtesy of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The purpose of this program is to implement local policy, systems and environmental change strategies to prevent and reduce overweight/obesity, chronic disease and associated risk factors to ultimately create a healthier community.
This program engages a cross-section of entities to develop and implement healthier options for everyone, including:
- Coalitions
- Community groups
- Local agencies
- Local businesses
- Residents
- Youth
The primary focus is to provide residents with simple, practical and cost-effective was to improve healthy eating and active living.
Implementation & Staff
Malden is Moving! will allow a new framework to make Malden a healthier community. The City of Malden Public Health Department in conjunction with its partners at the YWCA will coordinate the Malden is Moving initiative.
Chris Webb, Director of Public Health has appointed Christina Murphy as the Mass in Motion Coordinator. She coordinates the development and implementation of strategies that will improve healthy eating and active living for Malden residents.
