Starting a Business

All Business in Malden Need a Certificate of Occupancy and a Business License, but what about permits, licenses, or your sign?

Whether you are a home-based business or a commercial venture, paperwork is part of the process. But contact the Business Development office and we can guide you through the progression so you know you are doing the right thing at the right time. And if time equals money, saving you time is saving your money.

How do we help?

By Providing a Single Point of Contact for You

Having a Single Point of Contact can help maximize city resources on your behalf. One staff person is charged with reviewing your application for completeness, tracking applications through the process, and serving as a coordinating role for other boards, commissions, and department staff. Their responsibility is to work with applicants and coordinate the efforts to apply for the necessary permits and licenses.

Assisting in Site Selection and Planning

Our staff works with you to find the right Zoning for your business location. By keeping a comprehensive list of available spaces and by working with landlords and brokers, we can connect you with locations that give you the best chances for business success.

Delivering Permitting Assistance

For more complex projects, our staff will work with you to schedule a pre-application Project Review that would convene staff from permitting boards, commissions, and departments to meet with you and your consultants to discuss the business proposal. A Project Review allows you to present the proposed project and have any major issues that could require project modification identified prior to filing formal applications  .
