Overview
The Scholarship Committee was founded in 1997 by then Councillor-at-Large Joan Chiasson. It is sustained by charitable donations and scholarships are awarded annually to Malden residents seeking higher education.
Application Information
The City of Malden is pleased to offer this scholarship application to all Malden residents who have lived in Malden for at least 2 years prior to May 1, 2020, and who are seeking further education resulting in a degree, diploma, or certificate.
The availability of a scholarship is offered to all high school graduates seeking a degree or certification beyond high school. City residents have generously donated scholarship money to help fulfill the educational goals of Malden students.
The scholarship application will be assigned a number so that the scholarship committee will review all applications anonymously. The committee will take into consideration the following:
- Extracurricular activities
- Involvement within the Malden community
- Scholastic record
- Financial need
- Character
- Minimum two year residency requirement
It is important that every question be answered fully and honestly since incomplete answers could lessen your chance of being considered for a scholarship. The Scholarship Committee seeks to award scholarships to those students that meet the criteria listed above.
Scholarship funds not used for the academic year awarded will be forfeited.
You may apply every year that you are in school but there is no guarantee that you will be selected in successive years. Any person who has previously been awarded this scholarship two successive years will not be awarded a scholarship in third successive years; however, that person may apply the next year following, and be considered as a first time applicant.
Please return this application by Monday, May 31st, 2021 to: City Clerk’s Office, 215 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148. The application must be received by that date or hand delivered on that date prior to 4 P.M. to the clerk’s office.
Questions regarding these applications may be directed to the City Clerk’s Office 781-397-7116 or the City Council Office 781-397-7130.
