Junior Police Academy

The Junior Police Academy (JPA) runs over the course of one week in July.  The program is designed for students entering the 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall.  The JPA features a variety of training situations in which all cadets will be required to participate.  The JPA will include, but not be limited to: classroom instruction, hands-on police tactics training, physical training, travel days to special events and more. Lunch will be provided each day.  Police Officers act as staff instructors and supervise the cadets throughout each day of the program.  The JPA begins promptly at 9:00am and ends at approximately 3:00pm each day.  A limited number of cadets will be accepted to the program.  You must be sure you can attend during these dates before submitting an application.  If a cadet fails to comply with the rules of the JPA or fails to cooperate with fellow cadets or staff, he or she will be immediately removed from the program.

We have added a second week for the 2023 JPA in order to accomodate as many students as possible.  The dates for the 2023 JPA are:
Week 1 July 10th - July 14th
Week 2 July 31st - August 4th

Registration will open on Monday, May 1st at 5pm.  A link to register will be posted on this page.  Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  Preference will be given to Malden residents and to students who have not attended the JPA in the past.  Questions about the program can be directed to Detective Renee Kelley at 781-397-7171 ext 1203 or via email.

UPDATE:  Due to the overwhelming response, we have closed registration for the 2023 JPA.  Thank you for your interest!  You will be notified if your child has been accepted to the program.
