The Malden Teen Enrichment Center was born through the efforts of a dedicated group of adults partnering with the community's teen population. It started with an idea: hosting Teen Nights at the YMCA to offer teens a place to participate in fun activities with their peers. As the attendees of the Teen Nights grew in numbers, it became apparent that Malden needed to expand the availability of these activities from biweekly to a daily basis at a location the teens could call their own.
The adults went to work: planning, outreaching, and researching where the Malden Teen Enrichment Center (MTEC) should be housed and decided what programs should be provided and how it will be funded. Just as the number of teens grew on Teen Nights, the community support for MTEC expanded as well. MTEC provides our teens with high quality programs that promote leadership and youth development through enrichment activities; and opportunities to develop relationships with adults and peers.
We would like to thank all those who made MTEC a reality: those dedicated adults, the teens who showed us that a teen center was needed, and the Malden Community who embraced, encouraged, and supported the cause.
