Life Insurance

The City of Malden offers employees life and disability insurance through Boston Mutual. Employees have 30 days from their initial date of hire to submit enrollment forms. Enrollment forms can be found here.

Basic 5K Policy

  • Premium Rate: $2.42/month
  • Does not diminish with age
  • Can be brought into retirement with you
  • Term Group Life Policy; does not hold cash value and cannot be borrowed against

Voluntary LIfe Policy

  • Premium Rate is based on age and the amount of your policy
  • Can take out a policy up to $100,000 as a new employee
  • Can take policy out on spouse and child(ren)
  • Policy does diminish after the age of 70
  • Cannot be taken into retirement; at time of leaving employment you have the option to turn Term Life Policy into Whole Life Policy
  • Term Group Life Policy; does not hold cash value and cannot be borrowed against

Short Term Disability

Offered to School Employees Only
  • Premium Rate is based on Salary and Age
  • The Weekly Short Term Disability benefits is 60% of your Weekly Earning
  • This benefit kicks in after being out of work for 30 days
  • The Maximum Payment Duration is 22 weeks

Long Term Disability

Offered to City & School Employees
  • Premium Rate is based on Salary and Age
  • The Monthly Long Term Disability benefit is 60% of your Monthly Earning
  • The benefit kicks in after being out of for 180 days
  • The Maximum Payment Duration is 24 months
