The following is a summary of the reopening standards issued by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for organized youth and adult sports activities as amended and effective May 18, 2021.
As in previous phases, in Phase IV, Step 1, the ability to participate in sports and recreation activities is determined by three factors:1. The risk of transmitting COVID-19 given the nature of the sport or recreation activity itself. Sports and activities are categorized as Lower Risk, Moderate Risk or Higher Risk;2. The level of risk associated with the “type of play” without modifications which is defined by 4 levels from least to greatest risk; and,3. Whether a sport or activity can “modify play” to reduce risk.
