Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020 trash and recycling hauler JRM will begin strictly enforcing current recycling requirements. As of this date they will no longer collect bins that contain contaminated recycling materials.
According to JRM, Malden’s recycling has a high level of unacceptable materials and as a result, they are forced to disqualify entire truckloads from being recycled. These problems are occurring in many communities across the state. Neighboring communities such as Revere and Everett are forced to bear the cost of these disqualified loads whereas in Malden, JRM has absorbed the costs. As of April 6th they will begin strictly examining recycling at the curbside and will no longer collected improperly recycled materials.
To avoid any issues with the collection of your recycling, residents must pay close attention to how they prepare recycling for collection.
