Effective Friday, June 12th, the parks, playgrounds and athletic fields will reopen for general recreation and limited organized sport activities. We continue to limit those activities that encourage groups to gather and that make social distancing difficult to maintain. The goal is to open our recreational facilities while still protecting public health and preventing a resurgence of COVID-19.
Face Coverings and Masks: All visitors to parks and open space, over the age of 2, must wear a face covering or mask when they cannot maintain 6 feet of distance between themselves and others.
After using playground equipment or visiting any public space, users should always wash their hands or use hand sanitizer.
Outdoor athletic fields will be open but contact sports and activities must be limited to no-contact drills and training exercises. Games are permitted only for no-contact sports where ordinary play allows for social distancing, such as tennis and other racquet sports. When engaged in play, users should avoid touching someone else’s equipment.
Outdoor athletic fields are also open for organized sports, but activity is limited to no-contact drills, practices and training exercises. This must be scheduled through the Recreation Department. There are group limitations and other requirements that can be found at www.cityofmalden.org/321/recreation or calling the Recreation Department at 781-397-7168.
