[ARCHIVED] Mayor Commends Malden Firefighters’ Actions at Revere Fire

Firefighters, Chief and Commissioner with Mayor Christenson

Mayor Gary Christenson recently paid tribute to six Malden Firefighters who assisted the City of Revere Fire Department during a horrific fire on August 5th which also resulted in the rescue of a trapped resident. Revere firefighters were occupied at another working fire at that same time, so they called on Malden to cover them. Fire Chief Bill Sullivan and Commissioner Emery Haskell were also on hand and reiterated how proud they were of the efforts of Malden firefighters that evening.

Upon the arrival of Malden’s Engine 4 and Ladder 1 to a building fire at 76 Mooney Road in Revere, they encountered an intense volume of fire consuming the rear of a wood-frame, multi-occupancy, residential building. Lieutenant Sean Cadigan, Engine 4, ordered a line to the rear of the building and began knocking down the heavy fire. As Ladder 1 was setting up for aerial ladder operations to begin roof ventilation, the crew’s attention was suddenly directed to a window on the second floor being broken out by a resident trapped by the rapidly advancing fire. Firefighters Christopher Sheridan and Dennis Moriconi of Ladder 1 immediately propelled a ladder to the victim as Firefighter Robert Ryan redirected the aerial ladder toward the resident as well. Both ladders made it to the window simultaneously and Firefighter Ryan was able to remove the individual from the window and direct him to safety.

Mayor Christenson commended the firefighters’ selfless actions, presented citations and thanked them for their continued dedication in always answering the call to service.
