Mayor Gary Christenson, Fire Chief William Sullivan and Commissioner Emery Haskell presided over a second promotional and swearing in ceremony promoting four officers and welcoming three firefighters to the Department. Also in attendance were State Representatives Paul Donato, Steve Ultrino and Kate Lipper-Garabedian along with City Councillors Barbara Murphy and Steve Winslow.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the requirement to limit attendees, what would normally have been one large ceremony was split into two, the first one occurring on October 8th. Both ceremonies were held outdoors on City Hall Plaza where families were seated six feet apart from other families and wore masks. Between the two events, there were ten officers promoted, including Chief Sullivan and five new firefighters welcomed.
Deputy Chief Leonard Dunn was promoted to Assistant Chief of the Department; Captain Peter Endicott was promoted to Deputy Chief; Lieutenant Eric Truesdale was promoted to Captain; and Firefighter Francis Healy was promoted to Lieutenant. Firefighters Patrick Yanovitch, Joseph Ryan and Michael Ford were officially welcomed to the Department.
Chief Sullivan offered remarks and Commissioner Haskell invited family members to officially pin the promoted officers and new members. City Clerk Greg Lucey took the oaths and swore in the officers. The promotions and new hires are the result of recent retirements.
