Effective immediately, the City of Malden will begin to implement the new “Drive 25” ordinance which was sponsored by City Councillors Peg Crowe and Barbara Murphy and voted favorably by the entire City Council. This means that the default speed limit city wide on Malden streets will be 25 miles per hour (MPH), unless posted otherwise. All streets that do not have a posted speed limit will have a speed limit of 25 MPH effective immediately.
The City of Malden is reducing its speed limit to 25 MPH in order to make the city safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers and to help reduce traffic accidents. Data shows that driving at or below 25 MPH improves drivers’ ability to avoid crashes and reduces incidents of fatalities.
