Lateral Transfer Opportunities

The Malden Police Department is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies for the position of Police Officer through the lateral transfer process. Applicants must have completed a full-time MPTC approved police academy and have Civil Service status under Chapter 31. Applicants must be eligible for lateral transfer from a Civil Service Department. We are seeking a diverse group of experienced officers who are looking to make a difference in one of the most diverse communities in the Commonwealth. 

Malden Police Department and the City of Malden

 The Malden Police Department is comprised of 105 sworn officers. The city is the 17th largest city in the state with approximately 66,000 residents. Malden is considered one of the most diverse cities in Massachusetts with approximately 70 languages spoken at the high school. The MPD has a variety of assignments to include: Criminal Investigation Division, Crime Analyst, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Firearms Officers, Field Training Officers, Special Operations Unit (SOU), School Resource Officers (SRO’s), Canine Unit, Honor Guard, and Patrol Division. 

Benefits

Salary range is $63,088 – $65,896 as well as an “Educational Incentive” if eligible. Various other contractual benefits include, generous vacation, sick time, off/extra time, significant holiday pay bonuses, annual sick time buy back, hazard pay, uniform allowance, specialty stipends, and one of the most competitive detail rates in the Commonwealth. We also offer a unique contractual work schedule that maximizes your own personal time. Officers working in Patrol Platoons work a “double” which consists of a 16 hour shift (7:00 AM-11:00 PM) followed by a day off, another “double” 16 hour shift followed by 3 days off. There is one Patrol Platoon that works back-to-back “double” shifts followed by 4 days off. Officers working the overnight shift (11:00 PM-7:00AM) work three shifts followed by three nights off.
