[ARCHIVED] Chief Glenn Cronin Officially Sworn-In and Officers Promoted

Malden Police Swearing-in Ceremony (90 of 102)

On Thursday, July 7th Mayor Gary Christenson officiated at a ceremony officially promoting Police Chief Glenn Cronin and three officers as a result of former Chief Kevin Molis’ retirement on June 30th. Nearly 100 friends and family members were in attendance on City Hall Plaza along with Police Commissioner Salvatore “Butch” Gennetti, State Representatives Paul Donato, Steve Ultrino and Kate Lipper Garabedian, City Council and School Committee members.

Mayor Gary Christenson thanked outgoing Chief Kevin Molis for his outstanding service not only as Police Chief but throughout his entire 42-year career on the Malden Police Department. Chief Cronin was sworn in first and then participated in the swearing in ceremony of the three promoted officers. Lieutenant Danny Catana was promoted to Captain, Sergeant, Peter Mitchell was promoted to Lieutenant and Officer Trent Headley was promoted to Sergeant.

Mayor Christenson congratulated the officers on their achievement and thanked them for their commitment to the Department as well as to the residents of the community. Mayor Christenson also expressed great confidence in Malden’s new Chief. “In addition to his extensive background and experience, also impressive is his ‘on the street police work’ that most people don’t see, “said Mayor Christenson. “Whether taking calls at night or during snow storms to help people in need or assisting families with food or shelter, Glenn serves with compassion and is always willing to help. I know he will serve Malden well in the years to come.”

During his remarks Chief Cronin thanked his wife, Jeannie, his family, Chief Molis, Mayor Christenson and commended the department on their long history of honor, commitment and bravery. “I’m humbled and privileged to work in the most diverse city in the Commonwealth. Our officers come from widely varying backgrounds as well. This is something that we have been focusing on for a long time and we will continue to build on that diversity, said Chief Cronin. “I’m also looking forward to engaging our community through partnerships, collaboration, and problem solving. By using situation-based problem solving methods, we will keep crime in check. It’s important to us that the community is not only safe, but also that they feel safe.”
