Mayor Gary Christenson joined the Malden Eritrean Community on May 24th on City Hall Plaza to celebrate of one of the most important Eritrean holidays. This year marks 32 years of independence and the day serves to honor the heroic struggle and ultimate sacrifices of those involved in the war for independence against Ethiopia. The Eritrean Flag, a symbol of Eritrea’s protracted struggle, was raised on City Hall Plaza. Mayor Christenson presented proclamations from the City and on behalf of Governor Maura Healey’s office in honor of the contributions that the Eritrean Community have contributed to the rich history, culture and diversity of the City of Malden.
